Rain Delays, Close Racing, and Another Step Forward for the 30s
This past Saturday kept the DSR team a little closer to home as we made our first trip of the season to Blanket Hill Speedway. After plenty of miles on the road already this season, it was nice to have a shorter haul and get back to racing at a familiar Pennsylvania dirt track.
The night started with plenty of uncertainty as Mother Nature threatened to ruin the evening before cars even hit the track. Rain showers moved through the area and delayed the start of racing, leaving teams waiting to see if the night would even happen. Thankfully, the weather eventually cleared enough for the track crew to get things ready and the racing program moved forward.
Small Changes, Steady Progress
After hot laps, the 30s wasn’t exactly where the team wanted it to be. The car still needed work, but instead of making major setup changes before the heat race, the team chose to stay patient and focus on smaller adjustments.
Starting P4 in the heat race, Dominic kept the car clean and consistent throughout the race. With only one caution slowing the field, the 30s was able to move forward one position and finish P3. It was another solid run that gave the team confidence heading into the feature.
A-Main Action Gets Wild Early
With more adjustments made before the A-main, the 30s rolled off from the fifth starting position looking to continue building momentum.
Early in the feature, a caution flag shuffled the field and dropped Dominic back to P6 for the restart. Just one lap after the green flag returned, things got intense entering turn one when another car made heavy contact with the left rear of the 30s.
Somehow, Dominic gathered the car back up and kept it pointed in the right direction while several cars behind became tangled up, bringing the caution back out once again. It was a close call that could have easily ended the team’s night early.
After the cleanup, the field lined back up with Dominic restarting from P5. The final 11 laps ran caution free, and while Dominic fought hard to hold position, the 30s would ultimately cross the line in P6.
Building Consistency One Night at a Time
While the final result may not have been exactly what the team hoped for, the night still showed plenty of progress. One of the biggest lessons this season has been understanding how much track conditions can change from week to week, even at tracks the team has raced before.
In dirt track racing, no two nights are ever truly the same. The setup that works one race may need completely different adjustments the next time out. Every lap continues to teach the team more about the car, the track, and what it takes to keep improving.
Leaving the speedway wanting more is never a bad thing. It shows the expectations are getting higher, and the confidence inside the DSR team continues to grow.
We’ll regroup, fix our damage and get ready for the next one.
