Battling Back at Blanket Hill Speedway: Dominic Takes the 81 Car from P12 to P4

DSR was back in action at Blanket Hill Speedway. Coming off a strong run the previous Saturday at Hamlin Speedway, our team carried momentum and high hopes for another competitive night on the track.

During hot laps, Dominic reported that the #81 car felt a little too loose and needed to be tightened up before the heats. With the surface already beginning to slick over, we knew adjustments would be crucial.

Heat Race Struggles

Lining up P3 in the second heat, Dominic quickly realized the track had transitioned faster than expected. The setup changes after hot laps didn’t hold up, and within a couple of laps he slipped to the back of the field. He finished in P6, which meant we needed to regroup and make some big adjustments before the feature.

Feature Comeback: From Last to Fourth

With the heat race behind us, Dominic and the crew focused on dialing in a better setup for the feature. Starting dead last in P12, the #81 machine looked like a new car once the green flag dropped. Dominic settled in, drove with confidence, and began steadily climbing through the field.

The feature wasn’t without drama! Three cautions flew throughout the race, but Dominic and the #81 car kept clear of trouble. With one lap to go, the final caution brought the field back together for a single-file restart. Dominic had worked his way from P12 to P4, setting up a one-lap shootout to the checkers.

On the restart, Dominic held his ground and brought home an impressive P4 finish. While it wasn’t the feature win we’re chasing, taking the #81 from the back of the pack to the top five felt like a hard-fought victory.

Trackside Takeaways

  • Dominic showed resilience and patience, recovering from a tough heat race to secure a top-five finish.
  • The team’s mid-race adjustments made the #81 car competitive on a slick Blanket Hill surface.
  • Avoiding incidents during three cautions kept the momentum alive and positioned us for a late-race charge.
