Thrown a Curve ball: DSR’s Battle-Tested Weekend at Blanket Hill

After a productive Wednesday test and tune session at Blanket Hill Speedway, the DSR team rolled into Saturday night with optimism and momentum. The #30s felt strong, and all signs pointed toward a solid night at the track.

Hot Laps throws a Curve

After hot laps, we checked over the car and discovered an electrical issue that sidelined the 30s before the heat race even began.  In true racing family fashion, Scott Scholl stepped up and once again offered up the seat of the #81 Armstrong Comfort Solutions car so Dominic could stay in the fight. That kind of support is what keeps first-generation teams like ours going.

Heat Race Hustle: Inches from Victory

Dominic lined up P1 in Heat #2 behind the wheel of the #81. From the drop of the green, he went to work, defending that spot lap after lap. It was a textbook drive for the lead until the final moments.

Coming out of turn 4 for the checkered, it turned into a photo finish to the line. Dominic was edged out, finishing P2. Still, it was a strong showing in a car he hadn’t planned to drive, and it kept us in contention for the feature. It was one of the hardest-fought seconds we’ve seen and a reminder of how much heart this first-gen team brings to the track.

Feature Fight: Speed, Setbacks, and Staying in It

The top two finishers in each heat drew for starting position in the feature, and Dominic pulled the P4 starting spot. After the heat, he reported the car loose all around during, especially through the corners. So the team got to work making significant key adjustments to tighten up the handling for the feature.

When the green flag dropped in the feature, the adjustments were immediately noticeable. Dominic moved from P4 to P3 early and began putting together clean, aggressive laps to hold off some fast competition.

Unfortunately, a small miscue in turns 3 and 4 led to contact with an infield tire, costing a spot and putting us back to P4. As the race wore on, the #81 began to loosen up again, and with just a couple laps to go, Dominic lost one more position to finish the feature in P5.

No Excuses, Just Effort: That’s First-Gen Racing

It was another gutsy performance by this team, held together with heart, hustle, and help from the racing family around us. Big thanks to Scott for the use of the #81 Armstrong Comfort Solutions car again, and to everyone who supports DSR week in and week out.

We may not have a legacy name or a big-budget program, but what we do have is a never-quit attitude, a deep love for racing, and the relentless drive to improve and earn every inch on the track.

Stay tuned, this first-generation team is just getting started.

Trackside Takeaways

  • Support systems matter. Having a support system like Scott allowed us to compete when we would have had to pack it up early.
  • Pre-race checks are everything. The electrical issue was unfortunate, but catching it early prevented more serious issues later.
  • Small mistakes make big differences. One missed mark can mean a podium or a drop to P5. Precision counts at every turn.
  • Adjustments matter. We tightened the car successfully, but it loosened again late in the race. We’re learning more about what holds and what fades.

Appreciation Lap

Racing is a team sport, even for small, first-gen teams like DSR. Huge thanks this week to:

  • Scott Scholl  – For lending us the #81 Armstrong Comfort Solutions car (again!) and keeping Dominic in the seat.
  • Prymak Photography – For always capturing the action from the infield, even when it gets a little too close for comfort. Appreciate your work and steady lens every week.
  • Our Trackside Supporters – You’re the fuel behind every lap. Whether you’re in the stands or cheering online, we see you, and we appreciate you.

We’re building something from scratch, and we’re doing it with heart, hustle, and a whole lot of help.

See you at the next one!
