The Chad A. McCutcheon Memorial Race at Blanket Hill Speedway started with serious weather drama.
stormy Morning & Muddy Doubts
As we packed up and hit the road, we were met with a full-on sky dump!. The windshield wipers were working overtime, and hope was fading fast. There was no way we were going racing… or so we thought.
When we pulled into the track, it looked like the odds were still against us. But thanks to the hardworking crew at Blanket Hill Speedway and some extended track prep, the show was officially on.
Hot Laps Gone Sideways (Literally)
Dominic rolled out for hot laps, and as soon as the green flag dropped, the 30s went into turn 1 and nearly slid straight off the track. Track conditions were far from ideal, and he made the smart call to pull in immediately. After a bit more time for the track to come together, we were back in business
Heat Race Pole Position to P7: A setup lesson
We got lucky with a great pill draw, P1 to start the heat! But that’s where the luck stopped. Our team’s inexperience showed a bit as this was our first time at Blanket Hill under these track conditions, and our setup was way off. With no real grip and minimal control, Dominic did what he could: he held on tight and brought the car back in one piece. We finished P7. Not the finish we wanted, but the feedback we needed.
Wrench Time: Adjustments & Optimism
Back in the pits, we went to work. We made several adjustments to free the car up and give Dominic a fighting chance in the feature. Starting deep in the field at P15 (out of 19), we knew it would be a battle, but it’s one we were ready for.
Feature Fight: From the Back to P11
The green flag dropped, and it was clear right away that our changes helped. Dominic handled the car much better and worked through traffic, dodging cautions and staying steady. He drove clean, held his line, and brought the 30s home in P11.
Every lap is a lesson and we’re getting better every week.
Trackside Takeaways
- First race at Blanket Hill under these track conditions
- Heat: Started P1, finished P7 (setup was off)
Feature: Started P15, finished P11 (solid recovery!) - Valuable seat time and setup notes added to the notebook
- We’re still new, still learning, and still grinding.
Shout out Section: Community Matters
A massive thank you to everyone who helped put on the Chad A. McCutcheon Memorial Race. It’s an honor to be part of events that support great causes. And to the Blanket Hill Speedway crew, thank you for pushing through the weather and getting the track race-ready.
We are also forever grateful to the racetrack friends who offer advice week after week. This is what makes the dirt racing community special. We constantly have to remind ourselves: we’re a first-generation Micro Sprint team in our second year, chasing this wild dream one race at a time. We spend hours every week trying to dial in setups, learning from every lap, and growing every time we hit the track. The advice we receive is invaluable.
We’re not just chasing wins, we’re chasing growth.
See you at the next one!
