Another exciting Saturday night unfolded at Blanket Hill Speedway, and after the emotional ups and downs of last weekend’s races, we regrouped, made necessary repairs, and came back ready to see what the night would hold for Dominic and DSR.
A Strong Showing of Cars for Late-Season Racing
Despite the late season, the turnout was impressive with 13 cars in the lineup, which allowed for two heat races. Dominic had a favorable draw, starting P1 in Heat two. As the green flag dropped, he quickly secured the lead, but just one lap into the 10-lap heat, the caution flag waved. On the restart, there was some uncertainty about whether the P2 car had jumped, but as they say, that’s racing. Dominic battled for the lead throughout the heat but could not quite make the pass, finishing with a solid P2.
Luck of the Draw: Feature Race Excitement
For the feature race, the starting positions were determined by a redraw, and this week, fortune smiled on us as Dominic landed P2 on the front row. When the green flag dropped, Dominic had a challenging start, slipping back to P5 after the first two turns. Staying calm, he made a smart move on lap two to avoid a wreck in turns three and four, which brought him back up to P3.
The race saw multiple caution laps, but Dominic maintained focus. After another restart, he capitalized on his position, and when Noah Wirginis pulled off the track, Dominic moved up to P2. At the next green flag, Dominic made an excellent start, taking the lead through turns one and two and holding it for three laps until another caution came out.
A Hard-Fought Battle to the Finish
As the race resumed, Dominic held the lead through the first two turns, but JR McCutcheon, made a bold outside pass in turns 3 and 4. Dominic fought hard to regain the lead while defending his P2 spot from the cars charging behind him. After another caution and a few more green flag laps, Dominic crossed the finish line in P2, once again marking his best finish to date.
Looking Ahead: National Open 35 at Linda’s Speedway
Dominic’s consistency and determination continue to impress us all. Each race, whether good or bad, shows his relentless drive to improve and never give up. Next weekend we step out of our comfort zone once again, traveling to Linda’s Speedway for the National Open 35, competing with some of the best teams in the country. We are ready for the challenge and excited to see how we stack up!
