A Hard-Fought Night Ends Early at US24 Speedway

A Fast Car, A Hard Fight, and an Unfortunate Ending

The road trip west brought Dominic Slesinski Racing back to US24 Speedway on Saturday night. The speed was there, but racing has a way of testing every team in different ways. This time, it was a night filled with adjustments, determination, and a little bad luck.

Searching for the Right Balance

From the moment the 30s hit the track for hot laps, we knew we were not dialed in.

The car had good speed, but it was a little too loose. We felt a gearing change would help. Nothing major. Just a few adjustments to get the balance where we wanted it before qualifying races began.

Racing Our Way Into the A-Main

Dominic lined up 6th in Heat Race No. 3 with 24 cars in attendance and only 20 earning a spot in the A-Main.

He worked his way forward one position to finish 5th, but it wasn’t enough to lock into the feature. That meant one more opportunity in the B-Main.

After making changes back in the pits, Dominic rolled off from the pole position in the B-Main. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long to realize we had gone the wrong direction with the setup. The 30s was still loose, making it difficult to put the power down against the field.

At one point, Dominic slipped back to fourth, but he kept fighting. With a strong pass late in the race, he crossed the line 3rd, earning one of the transfer spots into the A-Main.

It wasn’t pretty, but the mission was accomplished.

Lap One Ends the Charge Early

Back at the trailer, the team regrouped once again and made another round of adjustments before the feature.

Dominic would start 15th in the A-Main, ready to move forward.

Unfortunately, the race took a turn before it ever had a chance to get going.

On the opening lap, several cars got together in Turns 1 and 2. Starting on the inside left Dominic with nowhere to go, and the 30s was collected in the incident. After the caution, he was sent to the rear for the restart.

When the green flag waved again, something didn’t feel right.

Dominic stayed on the track for a few laps, hoping the car was still drivable. After five laps, it became clear the damage was more than cosmetic. He made the decision to pull off with a DNF.

Once the car was back at the trailer, we found a bent tie rod and knew the entire front axle assembly would need a thorough inspection before the next race.

Looking Ahead

It wasn’t the ending we were hoping for, but that’s part of dirt track racing.

Some nights you’re celebrating and other nights you’re loading a damaged race car into the trailer and getting ready to do it all again next weekend.
